Questions new heating company owners ask us

Answers to the questions we hear most from people starting a heating company: what it costs, how long it takes, who owns what, and where our help stops.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

This page collects the questions we hear most from people who are starting a heating company or are in their first couple of years. The answers are short on purpose. Where a question deserves more depth, we link to the page or guide that covers it. And where a question belongs with someone else, such as a provincial authority, a lawyer or an accountant, we say so.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does HeatingCompany.ca do?

We help people starting or building a heating company with naming and brand, a launch website, a Google Business Profile with early reviews, and a capped first-year lead plan. We're a marketing and business consulting service led by Ali Sedighi, MBA, from Vancouver, BC.

Do you do any heating work?

No. We never install, repair or service equipment, and we don't send anyone to job sites. All the work in the field is yours.

Can you tell me what licence I need?

No. Licensing rules differ by province and territory and change over time. Our provincial pages name and link the trade safety authority, certification body, workers' compensation board and business registry so you can confirm your obligations directly.

How much does it cost to get started?

Websites start at $3,500 one-time plus hosting from $149 a month, and monthly plans start at $2,998. Prices are in Canadian dollars, and new heating companies add GST or HST at their province's rate, or GST and QST in Quebec.

Is there a contract or lock-in?

No lock-in. Plans come with a 7-day free trial that needs no credit card, and you can stop if a plan no longer suits you.

How soon will my phone ring?

Paid search can bring calls within the first weeks once your website, profile and tracking are live. Google map visibility and organic search build over months. We'll be honest about timing for your town.

We tried an agency before and it didn't work. Why would this be different?

We can't promise it will be. What we can do is show you every call and booked job by source each month, keep all accounts in your name, and let you leave without penalty. If the numbers don't work, you'll see it as clearly as we do.

Who owns the website, domain and Google accounts?

You do. The domain is registered to your business, and you have owner-level access to the website, Google Business Profile, Google Ads and analytics from the start.

What do you report each month?

Answered calls by source, booked jobs (which you tell us), cost per booked job, and what we'll change next. Clicks and impressions are included but not treated as results.

Should I start marketing before I'm licensed?

You can prepare the name, brand and website, but don't advertise services you can't yet legally provide. Time the launch so you go live the day you can take work.

Can you help me choose a company name?

Yes. We check availability in your provincial registry, look for a matching domain, test the name on the phone and build a simple brand around it. Registration itself is done by you or your lawyer.

Do you work with companies outside British Columbia?

Yes. We work across all provinces and territories, consulting online by video call or in person, as well as by phone, text and email.

Will you write reviews or create fake listings for us?

Never. Fake reviews and false addresses break Google's rules and can mislead customers. We help you ask real customers in a consistent way.

Questions about what we do

HeatingCompany.ca is a marketing and business consulting service for heating companies in Canada, with a focus on new ones. Our four services follow the order a launch should happen in: naming and brand, a launch website, a Google Business Profile with first reviews, and a first-year lead plan.

We don't do heating work, and we don't interpret licensing rules. That's not modesty; it's a line we keep because getting it wrong could cost you your licence or your customers' safety.

Questions about cost and commitment

The published prices are on our pricing page. In short: websites from $3,500 one-time, plans from $2,998 a month, plus GST/HST by province, with a 7-day free trial and no lock-in.

Ad spend is always separate from our fee, and the ad accounts stay in your name. If someone quotes you a single number that "includes ads", ask how much of it actually reaches Google.

Questions about timing

The honest answer to "how long?" is "it depends on your town and your starting point". As a rough guide:

  • A name and brand: two to four weeks, plus your registration time.
  • An Essential website: two to three weeks once you've sent photos and answers.
  • Google profile verification: days to weeks, depending on Google.
  • Paid calls: within the first weeks after launch, with costs settling after a month or two.
  • Organic and map visibility: months, growing gradually.

The launch checklist guide lays these out on a timeline you can adapt.

Questions about where our help stops

New owners often ask us things that sit just outside marketing, and it's worth being clear about the boundary.

  • Licensing and permits. We point you to the right authority on your provincial page; the authority answers.
  • Insurance and workers' compensation. Speak with an insurance broker and your provincial board.
  • Incorporation, tax and contracts. Speak with an accountant or lawyer.
  • Equipment choices and technical design. That's your trade expertise, and it stays with you.

Where we're useful is everything that turns your work into a company people can find: the name, the website, the listing, the reviews, the ads and the numbers that show whether it's all paying off.

Questions about results

You'll find real, named results from our heating and HVAC work on the results page, including GasBoilers.ca, a gas-boiler division built from scratch for CANRO Heat. We don't publish results we can't link to, and we don't promise any particular number of calls or rankings for a new company. What we promise is the method, the honesty about what's working, and clear numbers every month.

If you're comparing us with other marketers, ask each of them the same three questions: who owns the accounts, what gets reported, and how you leave. The answers usually tell you more than any sales pitch.

Questions about trust and ownership

Two rules protect you whoever you hire. First, every account, from domain to ads, should be in your business's name. Second, results should be reported as calls and booked jobs, not just traffic. We follow both, and we'd encourage you to insist on them from any marketer.

If you're about to sign with any marketer, ask to see the account ownership in writing and a sample monthly report before you pay anything. Still have a question? See how to reach us. We usually reply within one business day.
